The largest part of the TowerBells Website displays information which is organized in a repository that for decades was resident on an IBM-compatible personal computer (PC) under the Disk Operating System (DOS). That repository now resides on a Macintosh personal computer, under the Mac OS X operating system (macOS Mojave), within the context of an emulator of such DOS PCs. That emulator is called DOSBox-X, and the purpose of this page (along with its annexes) is to share the author's experiences in using DOSBox-X to migrate and maintain that repository, in the hope that these experiences might be helpful to other users of DOSBox-X and to the maintainers of its documentation.
The Website dosbox-x.com is the home of the DOS emulation software package. It has documentation, downloads, a Wiki with information for users, etc. A few minor editorial suggestions for improving that documentation are listed in this text file; if those suggestions are accepted by the maintainers of DOSBox-X, then that text file (and this sentence) can be removed.
My experiences with DOSBox-X are documented in this text file, which reports things that I learned about DOSBox-X that were not obvious from the documentation or that might be noteworthy aspects for new users of that package. Those things might also form the basis for some significant improvements to the Wiki, though I leave the judgements on that to others. The DOS executables mentioned therein could be made available for download if anyone is interested. Note that this text file does not detail the author's specific use and configuration of DOSBox-X (including addition of an auxiliary PC-style keyboard) or other matters that seem unlikely to be helpful to any other user of DOSBox-X. Nevertheless, that information is available in another text file that could be added to this page on request.
If you have questions or comments about my experiences with DOSBox-X, please write to me. If you have questions or comments about DOSBox-X itself, please direct them as indicated on the DOSBox-X Website.
